In my early teenage years, I wanted a shelf in my room to store my books and notebooks. Instead of purchasing one, I decided that it would be better to take a woodworking class and learn how to make one myself. Over the course of 2 months, I designed, cut, adhered, painted, glossed, and tested my very own shelf that I now use in my home to store my personal belongings.
In the woodworking class, I learned how to use a miter saw and a table saw, as well as basic mechanical tools. I was able to own every part of the manufacturing process and create a shelf that is still sturdy 8 years later. I tested different loads on the shelf to ensure that it would not fracture, and I learned the glossing and finishing process for wooden items. This was such a fun project to work on and I hope to do some woodworking again soon!
